Zidane said at a press conference he's stepping down because he believes now is the team for Real Madrid to hear from a different voice than his.

Zidane's Real Madrid team beat Liverpool in the final of the Champions League on Saturday, the third consecutive season the Spanish giants have been crowned champions of Europe under his leadership.

"I don't see myself continuing to win this year and I am a victor, I don't like to lose", added Zidane, who was under contract with Real until 2020. "I do not think he's angry with him".

Zidane revealed he broke the news of his departure to captain Ramos first.

"It's a unusual moment to do so, I know, but an important one too".

The 25-year-old was in tears when substituted after half-an-hour following a tangle with Real skipper Sergio Ramos, and departed the NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium with his left arm in a sling.

Her continued absence from the public eye, however, has caused a raft of conspiracy theories to foment, as Politico noted . But her five-day hospital stay for what was described as relatively minor surgery did little to stop tongues wagging.

And Liverpool FC legend Gerrard has admitted his disappointment at the way Salah's fortunes unfolded during the Champions League final.

"The team needs another way, another method of working, that's why I'm going", he said. It is an unexpected decision - I loved him as a player, and coach, and wanted him always at my side.

"I think it is time for everyone".

Petition supporters point out that Ramos intentionally injured Salah and in their opinion, he set a awful example for future generations of players.

Aside from his three Champions League crowns, Frenchman Zidane won one La Liga title, two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups since taking the reins at the Santiago Bernabéu in 2016.

Zidane's decision stunned Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
