Nasrallah said a recent attack on an air base ushered in a new phase that puts Israel in a state of "direct confrontation" with Iran.

Israel said it had attacked almost all of Iran's military infrastructure in Syria, destroying dozens of sites, after Iranian forces fired rockets at Israeli-held territory for the first time.

"Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) bears full responsibility for the consequences of its reckless actions, and we call on the IRGC and its militant proxies, including Hizballah, to take no further provocative steps".

Iran insists it needs the ability to strike Israel as a deterrent to threats against its territory.

The IDF attacked 50 Iranian targets in 16 locations in Syria in retaliation for Thursday's rocket attack, reportedly killing 27 supporters of the Assad regime.

Iran's foreign minister will embark on a diplomatic tour to try to salvage the nuclear deal amid high tensions following the USA withdrawal and global fears over reports of unprecedented clashes with Israel in Syria.

Since clashes in February in which Iranian personnel were killed at a base in Syria during an Israeli raid, Tehran has vowed to retaliate.

Iranian officials and their allies have spoken of securing a corridor from Iran to Lebanon, through Syria and Iraq.

Iran denies the claims, saying the Israeli strikes were launched on "invented pretexts".

Tehran, meanwhile, is under pressure from the USA and Western allies to negotiate a new deal, one that goes beyond restricting the nuclear program to curb Iran's military power in the region.

He said that "six Syrian soldiers and 21 foreign fighters, including 11 Iranians" were among the dead. Israeli hardliners, among them Mr Netenyahu, have previously advocated airstrikes to destroy its nuclear programme. "The Iranian octopus is trying to strangle us and break our spirit", Israel's Education Minister Naftali Bennett warned in April.

The withdrawal also reinforced the anti-American hostility of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, who reluctantly had gone along with Mr. Rouhani and his nuclear negotiators.

Mohammad Javad Zarif will leave late Saturday for visits to Beijing, Moscow and Brussels, a spokesman said Friday, holding meetings with all five of the remaining parties to the 2015 nuclear deal. Israel, however, said it hit targets near the capital, in southern and central Syria, hitting weapons storage, logistics sites and intelligence centers used by elite Iranian forces in Syria. More recently, after Israel's 2008 assassination of Hezbollah mastermind Imad Mughniyah, a Hezbollah bombing killed seven Israeli tourists in Bulgaria.

Following the USA decision to withdraw from the Iranian Nuclear Deal, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini stressed that the bloc reserved the right to act in its security interests.
