Don Blankenship is a bad candidate who is now on his way to winning the Republican primary for U.S. Senate in West Virginia. The Republican candidates are looking to unseat Sen. He also is running television ads targeting the Taiwanese heritage of McConnell's wife, U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao.
Coal miners are an influential political constituency in West Virginia and Trump's White House victory came amid promises to revive the ailing coal industry.
Blankenship's campaign argued that failing to disclose his finances was a non-issue.
Greg Thomas, a Blankenship spokesman, said, "Mr. Morrisey is just having a tantrum".
Now, insurgent candidate Don Blankenship's primary rivals are in a last-minute drive to hold him down, with even President Trump appealing to voters to oppose his candidacy.
But the effect of president's anti-endorsement remains to be seen, as Mr. Trump did not specifically favor either of Mr. Blankenship's opponents, West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey and Rep. Evan Jenkins.
Trump has one big reason not to support Blankenship: Roy Moore, the defeated GOP Senate hopeful in Alabama, who won the primary but lost the general election he was favored to win after reports that he'd made inappropriate advances toward teen-aged girls.
If we do that, West Virginia will have a senator who will work closely with President Trump.
Cleveland Indians vs. New York Yankees, 5/6/2018 Prediction & Odds
Gleyber Torres got NY on the board first with his first career home run - a three-run shot to left center field. The Indians have lost three of their last four games SU while the Yankees have won 14 of their last 15 SU.
A recent Fox News poll showed Blankenship trailing behind leading candidates Rep. Evan Jenkins and Attorney General Patrick Morrissey. He served about 12 months after being found guilty of a misdemeanor charge of violating mine safety and health standards in connection with the company he led and its 2010 accident at West Virginia's Upper Big Branch mine, where 29 men were killed. Blankenship is probably practicing some caution to not distance himself too far from Trump, considering the president won the state by 40 points in the 2016 election.
"The establishment is misinforming him because they do not want me to be in the U.S. Senate and promote the president's agenda", Blankenship continued. Trump won the district by nearly 50 points in 2016, but the districts ancestrally blue roots and historic support for Manchin may create a competitive race in November.
Last week, Blankenship referred to McConnell as "cocaine Mitch" and Chao as a "wealthy Chinawoman".
But the President's son does not share that sentiment and unleashed a series of tweets on Thursday urging West Virginia Republicans to vote against Blankenship.
Blankenship also has aired ads accusing McConnell of taking money from his "China family" and claims "Swamp captain Mitch McConnell has created millions of jobs for China people".
Blankenship predicts he cannot only win the primary but also defeat incumbent Democratic U.S. Joe Manchin in November "without the support of the establishment". Trump Jr. tweeted. "No more fumbles like Alabama".
President Trump endorsed Ohio GOP Congressman Jim Renacci in his Senate bid after convincing him to switch from the governor's race and appeared with him over the weekend in the state. "Let's find the very best person in West Virginia and not have a situation where we can't compete in November".
