Mr Giuliani revealed this week that Mr Trump knew about the payment to Ms Daniels made by his personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, and the president had paid Mr Cohen back.

Meanwhile, Fox News Judge Jeanine Pirro's Saturday night show is appointment viewing for the president.

Just a suggestion, but if Giuliani wants to convince special counsel Robert S. Mueller III that there's nothing here to see, he probably should avoid using words like "funneled".

USA president Donald Trump has suggested Rudy Giuliani, the aggressive new face of his legal team, needs to "get his facts straight" about the hush money paid to porn actress Stormy Daniels just before the 2016 election. He said Cohen received $460,000 or $470,000 in all for expenses related to Trump.

Giuliani's latest interview comes after days of conflicting statements about the investigations into the president.

"I am an expert on the law - and the fact is there is no way there is a campaign-finance violation", Giuliani said.

"No, I don't", Conway said on CNN's "State of the Union" when asked by anchor Jake Tapper if regular falsehoods and lies from Trump had eroded the White House's credibility.

"He'll get his facts straight", Trump added, though he did not specify the statements by Giuliani, who joined the president's legal team on April 19, to which he was referring. "He's a great guy".

Sanders said Thursday that Trump "eventually learned" about the payment, but she did not offer details.

Though Trump and Giuliani defended the payment episode, critics said it violated the campaign finance laws as it was an undeclared contribution made at averting negative publicity for the candidate.

One person close to the Trump Organisation said people with the company were aware that Cohen was still doing "legal work" for the President in 2017, but another person familiar with the situation said that Weisselberg did not know that Cohen had paid Clifford when the retainer agreement was struck and when the payments went through.

Trump took Giuliani to the woodshed for his gaffe Friday morning. Certainly not, you know, the president's lawyer. Cohen is no longer representing Trump, Giuliani said, saying it would "be a conflict right now". "I would love to speak because we've done nothing wrong", he said.

Mr. Trump has denied knowing about the payment, but on Wednesday, Giuliani told Fox News' Sean Hannity that Mr. Trump reimbursed Daniels. Times reporters are probably investigating that at this very moment, although only Cohen may know the full truth.

Kelly's stature inside the White House has always been the subject of speculation. "I mean what we witnessed by Rudy Giuliani may be one of the worst T.V. appearances by any attorney on behalf of a client in modern times", Avenatti said in the interview.

Baldwin's Trump responds by asking Cohen if he's calling from a secure line, to which he responds in the affirmative, saying the call is "untracable" - but the skit then cuts to a shot of two Federal Bureau of Investigation agents listening in on the call, shaking their heads in disbelief.
