The cargo plane, which is attached to the Puerto Rico Air National Guard's 156th Airlift Wing, went down shortly after taking off from the airport in Savannah in the course of a routine mission to Arizona.
Trump tweeted Wednesday: "I have been briefed on the U.S. C-130 "Hercules" cargo plane from the Puerto Rico National Guard that crashed near Savannah Hilton Head International Airport".
An unidentified official said at least five people were killed in the crash.
Bezore of the Georgia Air National Guard told ABC News that nine total people were on the plane that crashed.
Abby Murphy, a spokeswoman for the Chatham County Emergency Management Agency, said that the aircraft had gone down on the outskirts of Savannah, about 175 miles (280 km) southeast of Atlanta.
Master Sgt. Roger Parsons, a spokesman for the Air Force, initially would not speculate on cause of the crash and said it was too soon to provide definitive numbers.
Video from a business near the crash showed the horrifying final moments of the hulking plane, a version normally outfitted to do weather reconnaissance, the CNN report said.
Mark Jones told Savannah Morning News he was near the highway when he noticed a plane flying dangerously low.
"It miraculously did not hit any cars, any homes", she said.
Zachary Cruz, brother of Parkland shooter, arrested
Cruz was also subjected to sleep deprivation tactics and had to wear a restraint vest at all times, the group said. He was ordered to stay away from the Parkland school and all other schools after a March 19 arrest.
"This is going to drastically affect your life for an extended period of time, said Chief Matt Libby with the Port Wentworth Police Department".
The authorities cut electric power to the area of the crash, suspended service on a rail line that runs next to Highway 21, and warned that a stretch of the roadway could remain closed for weeks.
A spokesperson for the National Guard could not immediately be reached. "Please avoid the area". Puerto Rico's National Guard has five other similar planes, two of which need maintenance and aren't being used, he said. Belonging to the 156th Air Wing, it was used to rescue US citizens stranded in the British Virgin Islands following Hurricane Irma and ferry supplies to the USA territory of Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria previous year.
The Air Force confirmed there were fatalities but declined to provide a number.
