'Sharp Objects' Trailer: First Look At Amy Adams' Darkest Role Yet

The first teaser trailer for HBO's Sharp Objects dropped Sunday night, and it's shaping up to be the darkest Gillian Flynn adaptation yet.

The eight-episode series will see the five-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams star in the leading role and fans of murder mysteries will be absolutely gripped. The story revolves around a journalist named Camille Preaker (Adams), who returns to her Missouri hometown, Wind Gap, to investigate the twisted murders of two young girls. But Camille also has a history of her own. He's already got one hit HBO limited series under his belt - will this make #2? At one point, Clarkson's spooky matriarch gets told, "We need to talk about your daughters, how one of them is risky, and the other one is in danger", which poses the obvious question of which one is which.

The trailer ends with Amy gasping for air after being submerged in a bathtub and the last words viewers hear is a little girl whispering: "It's not safe for you here". The clip for the show- which is based on a novel by Gillain Flynn (the author of Gone Girl)- does not reveal many plot details, but it highlights numerous interesting characters and set pieces from the series.

Patricia Clarkson plays Amy Adams' mother (PERFECT), and the supporting cast includes Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Elizabeth Perkins, Matt Craven, Henry Czerny, Taylor John Smith, Sophia Lillis, and Madison Davenport. Gillian is the author who wrote Gone Girl and Dark Places, so you know this series is going to feature so many mind-blowing twists and turns. The show has been directed by Jean-Marc Vallée of Big Little Lies and Dallas Buyers Club-fame. HBO, you are just too good to us.
