Allison Mack was charged Friday sex trafficking after federal prosecutors said she worked as a slave "master" recruiting women to a group led by a man who sold himself as a self-improvement guru to the stars.
"Allison Mack recruited women to join what was purported to be a female mentorship group that was, in fact, created and led by Keith Raniere", Richard Donoghue, US Attorney for the Eastern District in NY, said in a statement. When reached for comment by BuzzFeed News, a representative for Mack said, "At this time, I have no comment regarding the arrest of Allison Mack".
The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle said Mack was indicted "for her role in DOS, a group. that purported to be a women's empowerment sorority".
Last year, the accusations took a new twist, with women who were part of a NXIVM subgroup coming forward to say that they had been physically branded with a surgical tool against their will. As Raniere was taken from the villa, The Post's Kyle Swenson wrote, citing prosecutors, the women chased after authorities in their own vehicle at high speed.
Frank Parlato of Art Voice was the first to break the news of Mack's arrest, which he said back in March was in the works after Raniere's extradition from Mexico back to the United States.
Both her initials and those of Raniere's were branded on the pelvic area of women who joined the organization once they were recruited into the cult according to former members.
An actress well-known to fans of the TV show "Smallville" is under arrest in connection with an alleged upstate sex cult.
National Football League schedule to be released Thursday night
The Eagles will host the Falcons for their season opener on September 6, Philly.com reported , citing an unidentified source. The Seahawks know the date of their game in London but now will find out the rest of their schedule on Thursday.
It's said the bail is asked to be set at a high amount due to flight risk as Mack has ties in Mexico.
The 35-year-old pleaded not guilty at a brief hearing in federal court in Brooklyn before US Magistrate Judge Cheryl Pollak.
Fellow Smallville castmate Kristin Kreuk broke her silence on her involvement in the women-only group in March in a Twitter post. Like the organization's leader Keith Raniere, Allison is facing sex trafficking charges and could face up to life in prison if convicted.
Courses associated with the group costs thousands of dollars each and participants are encouraged to pay for additional classes and to recruit others in order to rise within the ranks of NXIVM.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Brooklyn last week wrote in court documents that Rainere has "a decades-long history of abusing women and girls", and accused him of having sex with minors.
The actress denied she had any influence over the category and was not involved in its own "Dominus Obsequious Sororium" (DOS), which translates in Latin to "Master On the Slave lady".
