New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox: The Rivalry is Restored

The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees brought some snarl back to their storied rivalry this week, and it's a welcome change from the past few years of genteel, gentlemanly back and forth.

In 1973, another brawl ensued when Red Sox catcher Carlton Fisk was bowled over at the plate by Yankees catcher Thurman Munson. The Tigers said pitcher Jordan Zimmermann is expected to make his next start after being hit on the jaw by a line drive during a game against Cleveland on Wednesday.

The Yankees' Tyler Austin slid into second base too high and hard for the Red Sox's liking Wednesday night.

On Thursday Major League Baseball handed Kelly a six-game suspension after ruling he had intentionally hit Austin. Ramirez left the game and Boston officials said he suffered a bruise.

Youkilis' assessment seems slightly off, even though Youkilis PLAYED THE GAME (an acknowledgement written louder for the Twitterverse).

Ramirez, 34, underwent X-rays that came back negative, per Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

"It's a pitch that got away on a cold night", Kelly said.

Hanley Ramirez took a pitch off the right hand in the first inning, and had to leave the game. "But I still didn't like the fact that he was pointing at me and screaming at me". Now I'm sure in Austin's mind he may have already been set on going out there but the fact that Kelly egged him on only made his decision easier.

The six runs were as many as Gray has given up as a Yankee.

Umpires ejected three players and a coach. Austin slammed his bat down and charged the mound.

The next five teams are the New York Mets ($2.1 billion), St. Louis Cardinals ($.19 billion), Los Angeles Angels ($1.8 billion), Philadelphia Phillies ($1.7 billion) and Washington Nationals ($1.675 billion).

An inning later, Gray gave up three hits, threw two wild pitches and walked two.

The Red Sox won 6-3 and won the series 2-1, making the Sox record 10-2 and the Yankees 6-7.

Thursday night's Player to Watch is Brett Gardner who has been hot of late.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he did not support Nevin's actions.

"At some point things have to end, you have to put things behind", he continued.
