Salman Khan gets bail in blackbuck poaching case

Ahead of Salman Khan's bail hearing on Saturday, Sessions judge Ravindra Kumar Joshi was transferred overnight, along with 87 other district judges.

The Jodhpur sessions court reserved its decision on actor Salman Khan's bail plea till today even as the superstar spent a sleepless first night at the Jodhpur Central jail. Actor Salman Khan, who was on Thursday found guilty of poaching the endangered blackbuck and sentenced to five years in prison.

The actor killed the animals in Rajasthan's Kankani village near Jodhpur during the shooting of film Hum Saath Saath Hain.

Additionally, Dev Kumar Khatri, the judge who sentenced Salman to five year's jail term, has also been transferred. It is likely, that Salman Khan has to spent few more days in the jail environment.

Khan was convicted in the 1998 black-buck poaching case. Actress Preity Zinta also visited Salman Khan in the jail. The Indian dilm industry and journalist, Anna MM Vetticad regarding the case wrote, "Khan's bad-boy image has sustained him from the beginning of his career". Sources said Salman was not given any concession inside the jail and was served simple meals.

The actor - affectionately called "bhai", or "brother" in Hindi - enjoys a cult-like status and had hoards of fans waiting outside the court on Saturday who burst into celebrations after the hearing, beating drums and chanting his name.

In these two cases pertaining to the Wildlife Protection Act, the Rajasthan high court acquitted the actor in July, 2016.

They added that Salman would sleep on the floor on Thursday night. It is unclear if the actor will be able to complete the shoot for Race 3, one of his much-awaited upcoming movies. Followed by the same, there have been constant reports on what has been happening inside and outside the jail premises that has held Salman as a prisoner.

If Salman is not granted bail, he will have to stay in his cell all day long like other inmates and will have to give up all the facilities he had in his lavish apartment.
