Guthrie, a Microsoft lifer, is being given control of some of Microsoft most important bets on cloud and edge computing driven by applied machine-learning techniques. "His strong contributions to Microsoft over 21 years from leading Exchange to leading Windows 10 leave a real legacy".

"It also looks as if AI and cloud are interdependent, which makes ideal sense as the cloud is where most of the data is", Moorhead commented. The Enterprise Mobility and Management and New Experiences and Technology groups will continue to be run by Brad Anderson and Kudo Tsunoda, respectively.

Sharknado 6 To End Franchise

Ahead of this reorganization, Microsoft's corporate structure revolved around a handful of key teams like WDG, Office, Cloud and Enterprise, AI + Research and Gaming.

It's a sweeping set of changes that includes the departure of Windows chief and Microsoft veteran Terry Myerson and the appointment of Scott Guthrie to oversee the combined Windows and cloud business.

Myerson took control of the Windows team in 2013, shortly before Steve Ballmer announced his retirement. The thinking is by bringing Windows client, server, and cloud all together, Microsoft will be able to better build a common infrastructure and application model across all flavors of Windows.

Kipman and team will work closely with Harry Shum on all things AI related. This new division will also include its teams working on augmented and mixed reality technologies. Azure: Jason Zander is being promoted to executive vice president, Azure, and will lead this team. Cloud + AI Platform will consist of Azure cloud, AI for businesses, and the AI tools available for developers to build into their own apps. The executive is the newly appointed head of the company's Azure public cloud. Myerson mentions his "next chapter outside of Microsoft" in the post, but does describe his plans in detail. I am thankful for Gurdeep's leadership in building these new AI solutions that are going to help differentiate Microsoft in this area.
