Remains found in a shallow grave in Northern California this week were positively identified as those of a 25-year-old woman who had been missing since last month, officials confirmed Wednesday.
Police are treating the death as a homicide and believe the 25-year-old's boyfriend, Christopher Spotz, who killed himself last week after a stand-off with police, was involved, the BBC News reported. "Adea Shabani. We can not say that conclusively at this point in time because the condition of the remains prohibited positive identification", said William Hayes, the commanding officer of LAPD's Robbery Homicide Division.
When Spotz committed suicide in a stolen pick-up truck on Thursday, police said they were still investigating Ms Shabni's disappearance as a missing persons case. Authorities said during the press conference that two days earlier, Shabani was last seen getting into a vehicle with Spotz.
Through an attorney, Spotz told detectives that the pair left Los Angeles on a road trip to Spotz's father's house in northern California.
The possible grave was found on the banks of Dry Creek in the Spencerville Wildlife Area, in an area about 50 miles north of Sacramento, according to a statement from the Nevada County Sheriff's Office.
"At this point in time we believe that those remains are the body of Miss Adea Shabani".

"A search of that area uncovered what is believed to be a shallow grave", Bringolf said.
Shabani, an acting student who moved to L.A. from Macedonia, was last seen near her Hollywood apartment on February 23, according to police. Their argument ended with Spotz dropping her off when they were driving through Santa Clarita.
Police then made a decision to placed a want on Spotz's vehicle - a 2015 Toyota Tacoma truck - in order to conduct further investigations. More details, including Shabani's cause of death, will be known after the autopsy. San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies spotted it on March 22, near the 10 and 15 freeways. California Highway Patrol officers chased Spotz into Riverside County, where he exited the freeway and killed himself with a gun he had, authorities said.
