We know the second Audi e-tron battery-electric model is likely to be a compact five-door hatchback similar in size to the current A3 e-tron plug-in hybrid. According to Alexander Seitz, Member of the Board of Management for Finance, IT and Integrity said that Audi has implemented measures to work on four new models and derivatives with an unchanged budget.

Chairman Rupert Stadler says the 4-door e-Tron GT is planned to go into production in 2020. The e-tron GT is slated to be built at the Neckarsulm plant (below) where the R8 is now assembled. By comparison, the Telsa Model X is priced from €96,250 ($A152,000) in Germany.

In a recent press conference held by Audi, the brand revealed that there will be 20 new electrified vehicles coming by 2025 and the Audi e-tron GT will be one of them.

Perhaps what's most interesting about Audi's conversion to the electric cause is a focus on what will be special "Audi Sport" performance models. If that small wording is any indication of the bullheaded approach that Audi and its parent company is taking into the future, other key players in electric mobility should watch out. "We interpret sportiness very progressively with our fully electric e-tron GT, and this is how we will take our high-performance brand Audi Sport into the future".
