Rep. Mike Conaway, R-Texas, another top Republican on the intelligence committee, told reporters that meetings and other contacts between people on the Trump campaign and Russians might have been ill-advised at the time but did not add up to an worldwide conspiracy to throw the election. "We found none", Conaway said in an interview on Fox News Channel.

The intelligence community assessment concluded that, in influencing the 2016 election, Russian Federation sought to undermine faith in the democratic process and denigrate Clinton, with a "clear preference" for Trump.

The group, which is preparing a 150-page report that will then be reviewed by the House Democrats, said that Russian Federation took "active measures" during the presidential race, but had no specific plan to take Trump to the White House.

Not afraid to weigh in on social media on USA political battles, the Russian Embassy in Washington, D.C. gave the thumbs up to the quotes of Rep. Mike Conaway (R-TX), who headed the House Intelligence Committee investigation into Russian interference.

The draft report includes 25 recommendations for Congress relating to election and cyber security.

Conaway told reporters that he feels the committee has investigated all avenues it needed to probe, and he argued that the panel would not have been able to obtain the information Democrats were seeking had they gone the route of subpoenaing witnesses or trying to hold them in contempt.

Trump has repeatedly denied collusion between his associates and Russian Federation.

Democrats have accused Republicans of essentially blocking their path to the truth to protect Mr. Trump.

The Republican-run committee is now preparing to write a report based on the testimony of dozens of witnesses and thousands of pages of documents.

Mr. Trump produced an all-caps tweet to mark the news. According to Rep. Conaway, the interview with Manafort was scheduled early on, but along with Rep. Adam Schiff, they chose to reschedule.

"I don't know that necessarily there was a full fledged campaign to do everything they could to help elect Donald Trump", Rooney said.

Last month, in indictments handed down by a grand jury comprised of citizens who had reviewed the evidence, Mueller described how 13 Russian citizens and three Russian organizations had allegedly sought to disrupt the 2016 election.

Schiff said the panel's Democrats would continue aspects of the investigation "with or without the active participation of the majority".

Past year the Senate Intelligence Committee accepted the views of the intelligence community that the Russians were behind the hacking of the Democratic National Committee.

Nunes temporarily stepped aside from the Russian Federation investigation last April when the House Ethics Committee announced that it was investigating whether Nunes violated any laws or congressional rules by disclosing classified information.

The committee's partisan split grew deeper in February, when Republicans released the "Nunes memo" alleging that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Justice Department abused their surveillance authority to target Trump campaign adviser Carter Page in 2016.
