Samsung unveils TV which 'turns invisible' by blending into the wall

Samsung also announced that it's partnering with The Weather Channel, The New York Times, and others to overlay content on the ambient TVs.

The exhibition in NY included the large-screen zone, which showcased the picture quality of Samsung's new line-up with enhanced color and contrast for a variety of situations, such as gaming and watching movies or sports.

Samsung's new QLED TVs can blend in with their environment like a chameleon, thanks to a new "Ambient Mode". The 2018 line of TVs, available later this month, (but no pricing as of now) will all link in through Samsung's smart home SmartThings system, talking to any smart home devices on your network. Vizio has offerrd full-array backlighting in its TVs for years, which notably cost much less than Samsung's. The company unveiled its next generation of QLED TVs to about 1,000 attendees, and demonstrated new features created to enhance the users' TV-viewing experience.

While the line-up may have differing price points, Samsung is still keen to stress that each one with be aesthetically pleasing. Samsung is even promoting the new feature addition under the name "HDR EliteMax" for the Q9 in particular. The game, shown on a QLED TV that enhances the immersive experience, was broadcasted live on YouTube.

To turn on Ambient Mode, open Samsung's SmartThings app, which is its connected home hub. Owners can use their compatible smartphones to take a photo of the background wherein the display is mounted or positioned. It's hard to make something as large as a QLED TV look classy and sharp, but it looks like the manufacturer may have made something that actually accomplishes something interesting: The TV appears to be camouflaged, even "disappearing" when not in use. However, all of these new TVs are sold as both flat and curved editions.

Ambient mode can also overlay transparent art that blends in. "The new TVs also offer a more intuitive Universal Guide, providing an array of options to navigate and consume content on QLED TVs".

"UHD: Models in the 2018 UHD TV lineup include NU7100 (75/65/58/55/50/43/40") and NU7300 (65/55"). This morning, Samsung is taking the smart screen concept to its logical conclusion by positioning its massive TVs as the center of a smart home experience via the company's SmartThings platform.

The final feature that users will be interested in is the super-thin invisible cable connection that connects the TV to an external input box for HDMI inputs and power. These UHD TVs include features such as 4K UHD and HDR picture capabilities, clean cable solutions, slim design and Smart TV capabilities. These models reflect consumer demand for larger screen televisions for a more impactful, immersive home viewing experience. The Q9F would come in 75 and 65-inch screens, and the Q8F in 55, 65 and 75-inch.
