Kohima: The BPP-NDPP alliance is leading in 21 seats while the ruling Naga People's Front (NPF) in 16, as per trends available for 44 constituencies for the Nagaland Assembly, Election Commission sources said on Saturday.

Nagaland Governor P B Acharya today said that present Chief Minister T R Zeliang is likely to submit his resignation today as the given dateline of 48 hours ending this evening and informed that the swearing-in Ceremony of the new ministry for Nagaland will be held on March 08 at the Kohima Local Ground.

"With the support of an Independent and the JD (U) member, we have crossed the halfway mark (in the 60-member House)".

The announcement comes as a major setback for the NPF led by it chief ministerial candidate TR Zeliang who have been harboring hopes that the BJP might ditch NDPP to form the new ministry. Alliance partners the BJP and the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) both are leading in five seats each. It would not affect their BJP-led Government in Manipur, he said and further added that they would continue to have them (NPF) in Manipur Government.

"After a meeting with Mr Rio, Mr Sarma told reporters that his party was no longer in alliance with the NPF that had been in power in the state since 2008". Instead, the BJP leaders, including Assam cabinet minister Himanta Biswa Sarma gave statements that Zeliang should resign gracefully, respecting democratic norms. BJP leader and North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday announced that the BJP can not go back to Naga People's Front (NPF).
