A Gold Medal & New Faces

They were the first American curling team to win the gold, defeating Sweden 10-7 on Saturday in South Korea.

The curling team, led by veteran John Shuster, beat world number one Sweden 10-7 in the final to clinch their maiden gold medal.

Sweden scored two in the ninth end but the US cleared out stones in the 10th to seal the victory. A 5-5 tie became a 10-5 usa lead.

There are just four events to watch on Sunday as the PyeongChang Olympics wrap up: bobsled, cross-country, curling, and hockey. The episode had Russian Federation winning the bronze medal, while Switzerland took the real-life gold in Pyeongchang.

"It feels nearly unbelievable", said curler Matt Hamilton immediately after the match.

"I really hope it's going to do awesome things just for the growth of this sport, that's what we're really hoping for in the USA", said Andrew.

Shuster said they are no longer rejects now that the Americans are wearing the gold medals around their necks.

Together with Tyler George and John Landsteiner, they formed a group that they cheekily called the "reject team".

The IDF said crossings into the Gaza Strip will also be shut during the closure period, between Tuesday night and Saturday night. The IDF has imposed a four-day closure of the West Bank and Gaza for Purim , the army has announced.

But the gold medal game wasn't meant to be easy for either team.

Believe it or not, there's plenty more curling going on after the Olympics end, with bonspiels, or tournaments, throughout the year. "That we put the work in and I wasn't going to let any thought in my head or any of that stuff get the in way of the story of this team. they deserve to have the skip who helped them get here and I'm glad I showed up".

But the resurgent U.S. quartet had beaten defending champion Canada 5-3 in the semi-final, and in front of a crowd which included Ivanka Trump and Swedish King Carl Gustaf, they outplayed their opponents to secure USA's ninth gold of these Winter Games.

"After [starting 2-4], I sat on this grassy knoll out here, and I looked at the Olympic venue", Shuster said. "And hearing somebody else's national anthem because somebody else won the gold, that's when I knew I wanted to sing my national anthem on the top of a podium at an Olympics. You just hope that Olympic medals can inspire people", Shuster said. He skipped again in 2014 when the USA posted the same dismal mark.

A Shuster miss in the second end gave Sweden a chance to take an early lead with two points.

Anybody could appreciate this, though: After the disappointment in 2014, United States of America.

Shuster had executed a flawless shot: a blend of cool-handed finesse and foolproof strategy.

Said Hamilton, the mustachioed second who's emerged as a social media star back home: "It's unbelievable, this whole last four years". "It's been a lot of fun to be able to get on a stage like this and be an ambassador for the sport as someone who maybe makes it seem a little less stiff and more for younger people and cool".
