Turkish Shelling Near Afrin After Syrian Government Allied Troops Arrive

A pro-Syrian government convoy that attempted to enter Afrin has been met by Turkish artillery fire, forcing it to retreat, a spokesperson for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said.

On Jan. 20, Turkey launched Operation Olive Branch to clear PKK/KCK/PYD-YPG and Daesh terrorists from Afrin in northwestern Syria.

Turkey reached no previous agreement with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad before entering Syria's territory. Kurds of Afrin, Syria have called on the global community and the UN Security Council to implement their commitments and pressure Turkey.

"On February 21, during an operation in the Semdinli district of the Hakkari province and northern Iraq, two our military comrades died as a result of the explosion of a booby trap staged by members of the separatist terrorist organization (PKK)".

The YPG played a key role in fighting ISIS, effectively pushing it out of much of northern Syria, but has now been abandoned by former allies like the United States.

The report added that the popular forces have been deployed to specific areas where the violence is occurring to help locals defend their villages and homes against the Turkish aggression.
