Tonya Harding was the first American woman to land the triple axel in competition and her efforts to nail the hard jump are a huge part of three-time Oscar nominee "I, Tonya".

The jump helped her to a score of 137.53, which was good enough for only second in the individual programme, but helped the United States team overall to a bronze finish in the event. I heard them say, 'Start, start, start!' especially Alexa [Scimeca-Knierim] because she has a very distinct voice. Only three American women have ever landed the jump in competition - Tonya Harding at Skate America in 1991, Kimmie Meissner at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in 2005 and now Nagasu.

The figure skater told Andrea Joyce from NBC, "To nail that triple axel, I tripped a couple times going into it, but I told myself, 'No, I'm going to go for it and I'm not pulling back".

The only other women to land the jump in the Olympics were Japanese skaters Midori Ito (1992) and Mao Asada (2010), and Nagasu joked that perhaps her ancestry had played a part.

"Four years ago when I was left off the team, I wanted to make another Olympic team, and I knew I would really have to be something special", Nagasu told The New York Times. It doesn't happen immediately. The ladies free skate was the only portion of the event Nagasu skated in.

Rippon did not try any quadruple jumps while Kolyada and Chan did.

Litany of problems The squabble over Syria is, however, just one of a litany of issues burdening Turkey-US relations. For its part, the U.S. is very much determined not to move from Manbij, with Lt.

That doesn't take away from the achievement at all - but Nagasu becomes just the third woman to ever land it at an Olympics event. It's a lesson in focus and betting on the longevity of your career, even when the current situation looks hopeless. Her performance is even more special when you consider the fact that she was left off the USA team in Sochi after finishing fourth at the 2010 Olympics.

Rippon said the pressure of expectations was why he failed to make Olympics teams in previous years.

An Olympian has made history with her stunning figure skating routine.

Canada won Olympic figure skating team gold with 73 points in PyeongChang after the three-day event that includes short and long programs in skating's four disciplines.

"We made a few changes with my coach and I was able to put together a strong performance", Rippon said, "but there's definitely a few points I want to squeeze out of this performance".
