One officer dead, two others shot while serving warrant near Atlanta

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating.

GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said the suspect's relatives were being notified before his name is released.

Reports of the shootings were confirmed by Henry County police spokesman Joey Smith.

The Locust Grove officer died at the scene. Price said he was one of their better officers.

The young police officer is the only one the police department has ever hired straight out of school.

At a press conference on Friday afternoon, Henry County Sheriff Keith McBrayer said: 'You never know when you go to take somebody into custody what kind of response you are going to get. Price said the police chief and chaplain had spoken with Maddox's wife.

Three law enforcement officers were injured and a suspect was dead after a shooting in Georgia on Friday, WSB-TV reported, citing local sheriff's officials.

He said it happened as the officers were serving an arrest warrant that morning at a home in Locust Grove, about 40 miles (64 kilometers) southeast of Atlanta.

Two of the officers were taken from the scene to a hospital by helicopter, while the third was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

Police blocked off the subdivision and were not letting those who don't live there enter.
