At least 12 die in Costa Rica plane crash: government department

The plane was carrying five other USA citizens and two local crewmembers when it crashed in a wooded area, killing everyone on board, authorities said.

A U.S. State Department spokesperson confirmed that multiple U.S. citizens died in the crash.

The plane crashed in a wooded area on Sunday.

"The government of Costa Rica deeply regrets the death of 10 American passengers and two Costa Rican pilots", President Luis Guillermo Solis Rivera said in a statement on Facebook, according to a CNN translation.

However, heavier bands of snowfall may set up over the area as the system travels over Greater Lafayette. The National Weather Service is forecasting between two and three inches of snowfall in central Ohio.

A SMALL passenger plane crashed in Costa Rica on Sunday, killing all 12 people on board.

Enio Cubillo, director of Civil Aviation, said the tourists travelling in the aircraft were staying in a nearby hotel.

The reason for the crash is not yet known.

A mother, father and their three children from Scarsdale, New York, were aboard the plane. "I looked at my husband and said, 'You need to go, ' and right at that time two other gentlemen were running up the road, so my husband just ran with them, and they just started right toward the wreckage".
