According to reports, the deceased major has been identified as Prafool Kumar of 120 Infantry Brigade.

Indian Army's Udhampur based defence Spokesman Col NN Joshi told news agency GNS that Pakistan Rangers in "violation of ceasefire" opened fire upon the army posts near Keri in Nowshera sector along the LoC.

Vowing to avenge the killings, the Indian troops swung into action to silence the Pakistani guns. Two other personnel also sustained injuries and are under medical treatment.
