FireTV users will reportedly see a warning that the YouTube app will be gone by January 1, 2018, whereas the Echo Show version will stop service today.
The latest proof of that came yesterday afternoon when Google revealed YouTube will disappear from Fire TV tablets, streaming devices and television sets. Amazon also doesn't allow its Prime video streaming service on Chromecast, an omission that Google wants to change.
Google has chose to cripple the Fire TV and Echo devices because Amazon refuses to sell Google's competing products - the Chromecast video and audio-streaming dongle and the Google Home smart speaker - as well as Google's Nest-branded smart home devices including internet-connected thermostats and home security systems.
Fire TV will lose YouTube on New Year's Day, while the app has already been blocked on Echo Show. "We hope we can reach an agreement to resolve these issues soon".
In September, Amazon said there was no explanation given as to why Google removed YouTube from the Echo Show. Nest is Google's consumer-level home automation company, most notable for their smart thermostats, and has just introduced a new home security system, so Amazon's delisting came at the ideal time for maximum pettiness. Variety reported that Amazon's latest implementation also had some terms-of-service issues, which were related to the way it used voice commands.
Google and Amazon are so not cool with each other right now.
When Amazon stopped selling Apple TV and Chromecast on its site two years ago, the company gave the thin excuse that it was "important that the streaming media players we sell interact well with Prime Video to avoid customer confusion".
If you tried to watch YouTube on an Amazon Fire TV this week, you probably encountered a disconcerting message: "Starting on 1/1/2018, YouTube will not be available on this device".

To suspend ROC President Alexander Zhukov as an IOC Member, given that his membership is linked to his position as ROC President. If it was a victory to have the word " Russia " in the team name and invite some Russian athletes to compete, it came at a cost.
Amazon's Peter Larsen introduces Amazon Fire TV during a press conference in NY on April 2, 2014.
In response, an Amazon spokesperson told MailOnline: 'Echo Show and Fire TV now display a standard web view of YouTube.com and point customers directly to YouTube's existing website.
In an act of retaliation, Amazon pulled Google's Nest E Thermostat, Nest's Camera IQ, and the Nest Secure alarm system from its store.
"Google is setting a disappointing precedent by selectively blocking customer access to an open website", said Amazon said in a statement.
The move is undoubtedly a huge blow for Amazon but we hope that the situation can eventually be resolved.
Amazon also doesn't sell Apple's video streaming player.
Amazon did not immediately respond when asked if Apple TV will return to Amazon's online store now that it supports Amazon Prime.
"When Amazon first made the Echo widely available in 2015, many weren't sure what to make of the product...."
