Now that a new director has been hired, filming is expected to pick back up next week.

20th Century Fox fired Singer allegedly after his repeated absences from the set had caused the studio to temporarily halt production.

Singer was sacked Monday after production on the film was suspended due to his absence.

After a start in showbiz with many credits as an actor, Fletcher moved behind the camera for his 2011 directing debut Wild Bill.

Much about Singer's exit remains speculative, but the director apparently failed to return to the set after Thanksgiving holiday, which forced the studio to stop production.

The biographical drama film focuses on the formation of the rock band Queen and the life of lead singer Freddie Mercury, who is portrayed by actor Rami Malek. Singer was sacked from the project December 4 after what the studio said were unexplained absences from the set, although the director countered that the studio refused to give him time off to care for an ill parent.

With about two weeks left in the film's shooting schedule - if Fletcher does not opt to reshoot anything - Fox is still aiming for a December 2018 release date. It has also been claimed that Tom Hollander, who plays Queen manager Jim Beach, quit the film at one point because of Singer's behavior. "While, at times, we did have creative differences on set, Rami and I successfully put those differences behind us and continued to work on the film together until just prior to Thanksgiving".

According to The Hollywood Reporter, production on Bohemian Rhapsody will resume as early as next week.

The movie also stars Mike Myers, "Game of Thrones" star Aidan Gillen, and "Sing Street"'s Lucy Boynton.
