Storm Caroline batters Ireland overnight as Met Eireann warns of icy washout

A Met Office spokeswoman, Nicola Maxey, said: "Winds will pick up across the rest of the country so it will be a blustery day for many areas".

Met Office predictions don't now show snow for London on Monday as their forecast doesn't quite go that far.

Storm Caroline is expected to barrel into the United Kingdom overnight after strengthening in the Atlantic Ocean throughout Wednesday. As the storm moved away from the United Kingdom and towards Scandinavia on Friday it would be followed by cold air.

"Flying debris is likely and could lead to injuries or danger to life", the Met Office warned.

Thursday night will have scattered rain, hail and snow showers; the snow could also settle, especially in the north and northwest.

"At the moment we have a yellow weather warning in place, but it could be upgraded to amber".

It's nothing unusual for Scotland for this time of year but Perth is expected to have high winds and possibly snow showers on Friday.

Snow and falling temperatures are also forecast for parts of Britain later in the week.
