After an impressive round yesterday where Tiger Woods shot 69 to leave him among the chasing pack behind clubhouse leader, Tommy Fleetwood, the 41-year-old produced a stunning round (68) today to leave him tied for fourth (at the time of writing), just four shots behind Charlie Hoffman and two shots behind Jordan Spieth. This round featured five birdies and even included a signature Tiger fist pump (early in the round when he saved par with a putt from just off the green at the par-4 fourth).
Woods's back nine was much more uneven, with a three-putt bogey at the par-3 12th, and another bogey at 18, where he fanned his tee shot into some clumpy sand right of the fairway.
The tournament scoreboard is here.
"It felt great", said Woods. "That's going to take time, a lot more practice, a lot more training and more tournaments".
Woods also birded the 11th after a superb chip from a tight lie right of the green, but three-putted the next to drop his first shot of the day and also three-putted the par-five 15th for par. "We've got two more days and I think it's supposed to blow a little harder tomorrow".
Cyclone Ockhi on way to Kerala, TN
The Met has forecast heavy rains for Thursday and Friday in southern Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep and also parts of Nicobar Islands. At least four trains connecting Thiruvananthapuram/Kollam and Nagercoil/Kanyakumari were cancelled and others rescheduled.
"I hadn't played in a while but it was fun to play with a scorecard in hand again".
Putting was a problem for Woods as he was surprised by the quickness of the surface. It was his first eagle since the second round of the Wyndham Championship in August of 2015. "They were dry, they were rolling out and I air-mailed a few of them well past the hole but I really did struggle with my speed".
"I had a hard time all day with my speed on the greens - they seemed to be about a foot faster". I blew majority past the hole.
Spieth had seven birdies and two bogeys during Friday's round. "I was playing with Justin and he's never played with Tiger".
