Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson) are directing Captain Marvel with Kevin Feige producing for the studio. It's actually Jude Law, who is set to star as a young Albus Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe just added yet another impeccable performer to its ranks. The significance of the film can not be understated as it is the first female solo-outing for a Marvel superhero after a slew of male-centric features. Although not said directly in this casting report, in comic books Mar-Vell is the Kree warrior who was Carol Danvers' namesake and mentor as the original Captain Marvel.
Variety notes that Law's character will serve as a mentor to Larson's character as she works to figure out her new powers, so that should set up a pretty terrific character dynamic.
It was first revealed at San Diego Comic Con that "Captain Marvel" will take place in the early 1990's with Samuel L. Jackson also expected to make an appearance as a younger Nick Fury long before the Avengers were ever a team. Besides Larson and Law, Ben Mendelsohn is on board to play the villain, because being on board to play the villain is what Ben Mendelsohn does.
